As we approach my departure date, most things are falling into place. Lines on maps have been drawn, GPSs programmed, emergency beacons registered and set up, sattelite phone charged, en route destinations researched, fuel availability confirmed, probability of locusts, weather and other calamities studied and contingencies planned, camera batteries and memory cards stocked, packing lists defined, then revised etc etc.
The motor glider is also getting ready but is a bit behind schedule, which may mean a delayed departure. Due to all the rain across Victoria, I'm also looking at options for departure and reviewing the Victorian legs of the trip. With some airfields in central Victoria under water, a modified plan is being worked out.
The guys that went up last year planned their departure 2 weeks later than when I'm going (and were also delayed by weather) so should be fine. It's just the way it is. As the saying goes: "time to spare, go by air".
Thanks for visiting the Friendship Flight blog! The trip was a great success - I made it back after realising my dream of flying along the Morning Glory BUT those affected by cancer still need help, so the fundraising page is still going if you were interested in making a donation (see below). About the adventure: I flew solo from the south coast of Australia, across the outback, to the north coast of Australia to catch the elusive Morning Glory cloud.
